Gender: Female
Personality: Arria is somewhat shy, which gives her a quiet personality, but she warms up more to people once she gets to know them and. She is intelligent, and works hard at her studies, and she is overall a very good student. Some people might describe her as a bookworm, as she loves books and can often be seen simultaneously walking and reading. She generally makes a point of following the school rules, though she still has a taste for adventure. She also loves cats, and has a gray tabby named Bonnie.
Background: Arria was born in London. Her mother was a witch named Elinor, who had married a Muggle named Robert Smythe. While the family wasn’t rich, they were middle-class and well-off in their lives, and able to give Arria a safe and happy childhood.
Elinor wasn’t surprised when Arria started exhibiting signs of magical talent at a young age, and was thankful that her husband was already aware of her own study of magic; otherwise he may have been quite a bit more surprised than he was when a young kitten was teleported into their house when Arria was ten. The kitten became a permanent member of the household, and Arria’s new pet, and was named Bonnie.
When she was eleven years old, Arria received her invitation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her mother, having expected this for quite some time, took her daughter to Diagon Alley to get her school supplies, and to formally introduce her to the world of magic. Arria was both excited and nervous to be leaving her family and going away to school, but after it was agreed that she could take Bonnie along, she decided that going to Hogwarts would be a worthwhile experience.
When she reached Hogwarts, Arria was amazed by the sheer size of the castle, and by how many other students were only just arriving, as well. When it was time for the Sorting ceremony, Arria wasn’t sure what to expect, and was surprised when she first saw the Sorting Hat. The Hat placed Arria in Ravenclaw for her intelligence.
Throughout the year, Arria learned many things from the professors at Hogwarts, from casting spells to flying a broomstick. She made friends from Ravenclaw, as well as a few from other Houses. Soon, the school year came to a close, and the students were transported back home on the Hogwarts Express.
When the list of supplies for her second year came in the mail, Arria could hardly wait for the new school year to begin. Once again, her mother took her shopping in Diagon Alley, and then helped her pack before she set off for Hogwarts.
During her second year, Arria began studying several new subjects, along with those that were familiar to her. One of her new classes was Care of Magical Creatures, which she found to be quite fascinating due to her love of animals.
Now Arria has begun her third year at Hogwarts, and new adventures await her…
IC: Arria Smythe walked down the empty corridors, holding her copy of “Magical Beasts and Where To Find Them”. Her eyes scanned the pages of the book, occasionally glancing up to make sure she didn’t collide with anything. There was little chance that she would run into any other students right now; she had a break between classes, while most of the other students seemed to have different schedules.
Arria glanced up from her book at the large grandfather clock that stood nearby. With a start, she realized that it was nearly time for her Care of Magical Creatures class. The third-year tucked the book under her arm, and raced toward the nearest staircase. She ran down two stairs at a time, turning at the second-floor landing and continuing her fast pace to the entry hall.
Coming to the bottom of the stairs, Arria nearly tripped over a small, gray tabby shape. The shape jumped up off the floor with a meow of protest, and Arria quickly realized that it was her cat, Bonnie. “How did you get all the way down here…?” she asked the cat, picking her up off of the floor and petting her ears apologetically. “Were you trying to find me?” The third-year thought for a moment. She couldn’t go all the way back to the Ravenclaw dormitories now to make sure Bonnie was safe, or she would miss her class.
Making her decision, she set the cat down on the floor, and said, “Ok, if you want to come with me…Just don’t touch anything in class, all right?” The cat, seeming to understand, walked beside Arria to the main door, and followed her outside.
Arria spotted several other students making their way down to the class, and let out a sigh of relief. At least she wasn’t late!
With Bonnie padding along behind her, Arria quickly followed them to the Care of Magical Creatures class, still carrying her book with her.
